A man accused of murdering his mother in a brutal attack has appeared in court after a police chase that ended with electric shocks.
Harley James Jeffries, 33, appeared in the Armadale Magistrates Court in Western Australia today.
Police were called to the residence around 7 a.m., where they found the woman’s body after Jeffries allegedly fled the scene in a car.
Officers later spotted him traveling about an hour north of Perth on the Great Northern Highway near the town of Bindoon, police said.
The patrol tried to stop Jeffries, but he eluded officers and drove another 100 kilometers before being stopped with a tire inflation device in the small town of Bindi Bindi, about two hours north of Perth.
Jeffries, who was acting aggressively, challenged police before being tased and arrested, police said in a statement.
A 12-year-old girl is believed to have witnessed the woman’s alleged murder.
Prime Minister Roger Cook described the incident as a “particularly vicious and vicious attack”.
“Our hearts go out to this family, but this young girl who actually, at this stage, appears to have witnessed this event, must be incredibly traumatized by what she saw,” he told reporters.
“I’m very pleased and once again, absolutely proud of our police who were able to apprehend someone.
Jeffries was remanded in custody to appear at Stirling Gardens Magistrates’ Court on July 24 for mention.
