British welterweight Conor Benn has been handed a second suspension after successful appeals by the UK Anti-Doping Agency (Ukad) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC).
Ukkad had appealed to the independent The National Anti-Doping Commission’s decision to release Ben after failing two voluntary drug tests in 2022 and then being suspended in March 2023.
The BBBoC’s general secretary, Robert Smith, said Benn was temporarily banned from participating in any capacity in any competition organized, convened, sanctioned or recognized by the BBBoC “or any sport complying with the World Anti-Doping Code”.
“Ukad and the BBBoC were successful in their respective appeals against a decision handed down by a tribunal of the independent National Anti-Doping Panel in July 2023,” he added. “Mr Benn’s suspension was re-imposed by the appeal tribunal following these successful appeals.”
Smith said the case remains before the independent National Anti-Doping Panel and will proceed in accordance with UK anti-doping rules.
There was no comment from Ben’s promoters, Matchroom. The 27-year-old boxer previously expressed his innocence about the failed tests.
