Bus driver, 70, charged over crash that killed young woman in Brisbane

Just after 5pm on March 8, police say the bus was traveling along Edward Street of Brisbane center when he left the road and hit an 18-year-old woman.

Tia Cameron was pinned against a building and died at the scene.

An 18-year-old woman is believed to have died after being pinned by a bus into a building in a horrific crash in Brisbane's central business district. Emergency services attended the scene on the corner of Edward Street and Ann Street after the bus mounted a curb just after 5pm.

The bus driver and four passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

At the time, Queensland Premier Stephen Miles offered his condolences to the family on social media.

“Saddened to hear the news that a woman has died after a bus was involved in a serious crash in Brisbane CBD this evening,” he posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Today, after nearly three months of investigation, the 70-year-old bus driver was given a notice to appear in court on one count of careless driving causing death.

He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 26.
