Kylian Mbappe has confirmed he will leave Paris Saint Germain at the end of the season. The striker released a video on social media confirming the news many fans were expecting after the French side won Ligue 1 for the third consecutive season.
Addressing supporters, the 25-year-old said: “I wanted to let you know that this is my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend [my contract] and the adventure will end in a few weeks. PSG host Toulouse on Sunday and Mbappe said the game would be “my last at the Parc des Princes”.
“There’s a lot of emotion,” he added. “For many years I had the great honor of being a member of the biggest French club.” Mbappe thanked his five managers at PSG – Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Christophe Galtier and Luis Enrique – as well as his teammates and backroom staff.
“It’s hard to announce this, to leave my country, League 1a championship I’ve always known,” continued Mbappe, “but I think I needed this, a new challenge after seven years.” He reserved special thanks for the PSG fans, admitting: “I haven’t always lived up to the love that you all gave me.’
“PSG is a club that leaves no one indifferent. You can love him or hate him… I made the choice to love him for seven years, through ups and downs,” he added. “At no point do I regret signing with this prestigious club… I tried to give the best version of myself, with my qualities and my flaws.”
Mbappe arrived at PSG on loan from Monaco in 2017 before signing permanently for a fee of 155 million euros (£143 million) a year later. He has scored 255 in 306 games and has 108 assists. This season his tally of 26 league goals is nine ahead of Lille’s Jonathan David.
The World Cup winner has not announced where he intends to move on, but has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. PSG missed out on the chance to play the Spanish giants in the Champions League final after losing to Borussia Dortmund in their semi-final.
